Album Reviews - April 5th 2011

Gonna start something new and fill you guys in on what albums I went through each day.

Today I started off listening to Lauryn Hill's Past, Present & Future project.

It mainly sucked and I didn't keep anything from it except for "The World Is a Hustle" which was nice and pretty and much better than the bad remixes to her Miseducation of Lauryn Hill songs off Past, Present & Future.

Next I listened to Eurythmics' Peace Album. I made a point to listen to all of Eurythmics works and have found some great tracks, but this particular album I hated everything on it. The whole album is no longer on my iPod, thank god.

Next I listened to Blonde Redhead Penny Sparkle album and it was awesome. Not a song had to go. Start to finish the entire album is good and I highly suggest you take a listen to it.

Next I listened to Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday album. I halfway liked it halfway disliked it. Most of the songs like "Your Love" and "Check Up On It" I was already familiar with from the radio. Some newer tracks I was less familiar with were the tracks "Fly" a duet with Rihanna and and "I'm the Best."

I checked out The Gorillaz' Plastic Beach Live album but it was so bad I couldn't even get through it. None of the live versions of the songs sounded anywhere close to as good as the studio versions and I found myself skipping through to get to songs I liked, but never enjoying the live versions.

I checked out Kraak & Smaak's Plastic People album, which was so enjoyable start to finish. Songs like "Squeeze Me" and "Ain't Gonna Take It No More" have been favorites of mine for some time. They do a great version of "Man of Constant Sorrow" too but the best part are the long house tracks that you just zone out to like "California Roll."

I got into some classic Tina Turner by taking a listen to her Platinum 3 Disc Collection. I found some new Turner songs I had never heard before and found some ones I really didn't care for. I was well familiar with songs like "Let's Stay Together," "Proud Mary," "Missing You," and "The Best" but some new takeaways from the listen that I really liked were songs like "Look Me In The Heart," "One of the Living," and "In Your Wildest Dreams."

I checked out Natasha Bedingfield's Pocketful of Sunshine album which I basically did not find any new hits on... her A&R team adequately promoted all the decent hits, i.e. "Soulmate," "Pocketful of Sunshine," "Love Like This (feat Sean Kingston)" and "Angel." Otherwise no good hits.

Lastly I got halfway through Yo La Tengo's Popular Songs album... I'm kinda indecisive on how I feel about the band. I got into the first song "Here to Fall" but then when the following two songs played - "Avalon Or Someone Very Similar" and "By Two's," I did not like them at all. "Periodically Triple Or Double" isn't bad.

So basically the best album of the day was surprisingly Blonde Redhead Penny Sparkle and worst would be Lauryn Hill Past Present & Future.
